Football Italia has selected the top XI from Serie A Round 1, featuring four Italian players.
With the first round of the 2024-25 Serie A season now in the books, Football Italia identified the standout performers from the opening round, based on the average player ratings from Italian sports publications.
Atalanta’s Marco Brescianini and Mateo Retegui were the standout Italian players in the opening Serie A matchday, each netting two goals.
Inter’s Marcus Thuram also bagged a brace, making it unsurprising to see him join Retegui in the attack.
Another key performer from the first round was Hellas Verona’s Darko Lazovic, who delivered two assists in a stunning 3-0 victory over Napoli at the Stadio Bentegodi.
His teammate Ondrej Duda also provided an assist, while Juventus’ debutant Samuel Mbangula found the net just 23 minutes into his first-ever Serie A appearance.
Udinese’s Maduka Okoye earned the highest rating among goalkeepers, contributing to the Bianconeri’s 1-1 draw at Bologna alongside his teammate Lautaro Giannetti.
Andrea Cambiaso (Juventus) and Alessandro Vogliacco (Genoa), already highlighted among the top Italian players from Round 1, also made it into the ideal XI.
Ideal Serie A XI Round 1 (4-4-2): Okoye; Cambiaso, Giannetti, Vogliacco, Tchatchoua; Mbangula, Brescianini, Duda, Lazovic; Thuram, Retegui.
