After dominating Hungary 5-0 on Saturday, it seemed like there was only one way to go—down, right?
That’s exactly what happened in Germany’s 2-2 draw with the Netherlands, but it wasn’t a sudden or disastrous collapse as some might suggest.
There were positives during the match, though the performance was inconsistent, leading to the result. For the German national team coach, it simply wasn’t good enough. However, he stayed upbeat.
“It was an entertaining and exciting open game from both teams. We responded well after falling behind and deserved to be ahead at halftime. Unfortunately, we conceded the equalizer early in the second half due to overly aggressive defending in the box [Schlotterbeck against Brobbey], which wasn’t necessary. We know that every game before the World Cup matters, whether in the Nations League or qualifiers. The team believes in itself, and the fans can see that the players are giving their all,” said Nagelsmann (as reported by @iMiaSanMia).
Despite the result, Nagelsmann has the team moving in the right direction. Can the German coach continue making progress in the next international break?
