Bruno Fernandes is set to become one of Manchester United’s highest-paid players with a new deal.

The Portuguese player is expected to lengthen his existing contract, which lasts until 2026, to 2027.

Bruno Fernandes is set to become one of the top earners at Manchester United after successful talks about a new contract.

The Portuguese midfielder is expected to extend his current deal, which lasts until 2026, through to 2027, with an option for an extra year.

According to talkSPORT, Bruno Fernandes’ new contract will elevate his earnings to match Marcus Rashford’s, making him the club’s highest-paid player. The England international is reportedly earning around £350,000 per week.

Fernandes’ previous salary was believed to be about £220,000 per week, indicating that Manchester United has offered him a significant pay increase.

This development comes after the team faced a 25% pay reduction due to their failure to qualify for the Champions League.

Fernandes, who turns 30 in September, had hinted at uncertainty over his future earlier this summer.

In May, he stated, “I feel that the club wants me to be part of the future, so, as I’ve always said, I don’t want to be a player that the club doesn’t want. I will stay if the club wants me for the future. If for some reason they don’t, I will leave.”

The midfielder had been linked with Bayern Munich, Inter Milan, and the Saudi Pro League, but his new contract puts an end to the speculation surrounding his future this summer.

Fernandes joined Manchester United from Sporting Lisbon in January 2020 for £68 million. Since then, he has become the club captain under Erik ten Hag, scoring 54 goals in 159 Premier League appearances.
