Besiktas vice-president Hüseyin Yücel has confirmed that his team recently showed interest in signing unwanted Juventus and Italy forward Federico Chiesa. However, he stated that the club decided to move on after hearing the player’s ‘unreasonable’ salary demands.
Chiesa is expected to leave Juventus before the summer transfer window closes, as he is not part of coach Thiago Motta’s plans for the 2024-25 season.
What did Yücel say about Chiesa and Besiktas’ interest?
Yücel indicated that seven clubs are interested in negotiating a deal with Juventus for Chiesa, but the Old Lady has not yet received a formal offer for the former Fiorentina player.
The Besiktas vice-president also confirmed that he and his team had considered bringing the 26-year-old to Turkey for “about 10 days,” but they will now focus on other targets.
Yücel believes that Chiesa is demanding a salary of around €9 million per season.
“It’s true, we discussed Chiesa for about 10 days,” Yücel said, according to Corriere dello Sport.
“I would like to highlight that the player has a salary expectation of about €9 million, in addition to Juve’s asking price of around €15 million.
“At present, seven clubs are interested in him, but the demands are unreasonable, and it is not feasible for us to meet them. Therefore, the player is no longer on Besiktas’s radar. The club’s priorities are more important than individual players.”
Besiktas recently added another Italian player to the squad, Ciro Immobile, who joined permanently from Lazio earlier this summer.
